London’s Vegan Markets – Thats right, plural

If you haven’t already heard, there are now two weekly, all vegan food markets in London. East London to be exact. As an East London resident I am beyond excited to have SO MUCH choice of incredible food available to me every weekend. Not only is it a place to come and try the latest creations from your favourite spots, but also a great way to find new smaller vegan businesses creating some of the tastiest, creative food out there. These markets also bring a sense of community – that I have been lucky enough to find online, into real life. They are the perfect location to arrange a meet up with online vegan friends, or invite your real life non vegan friends out to try. There is something for everyone at these markets.

The first and original is Fat Gay Vegan’s market at Hackney Downs Studios. This started out as a Christmas market, then became monthly as it was so successful then finally weekly. I’ve seen many of the same vendors with delicious creations each week such as Vegan Delice and Temple of Seitan, as well as some new. This market always has a fun and friendly atmosphere as well as delicious vegan food. This market is open on Saturdays from 11am to 5pm as well as a monthly night market on the first Friday of each month from 6pm – 11pm.

This past weekend was the opening of Broadway Vegan Market which is in a school yard, just off Broadway market, near London Fields. Of course I was there to check it out, and was excited to see how large the venue is, and how many stalls there were that I hadn’t tried before. It also had live music and a lovely atmosphere. It got pretty busy, most likely due to it being opening day as well as foot traffic from Broadway Market, so some of the queues were quite long, but overall it was a great market place. This market is also on Saturdays from 10am – 4pm.

If you are visiting London for a weekend or even a longer trip, these markets are a great way to try many of the incredible vegan food vendors that London has to offer in one place.

I am so happy to see how busy these markets are each week as veganism becomes more and more popular, and it would be wonderful to see some more vegan markets pop up in other parts of the city as well. I would love to know if there are any other vegan markets around the UK or anywhere else in the world even, so if you know of any please let me know!
